The Ontario Road Show is a professional development conference specially designed for anyone whose job is to build relationships with employers – job developers, Ontario Works employees, secondary and postsecondary co-op consultants and more. Its purpose is to provide access to industry best practices, allow attendees to hear from employers firsthand about their hiring needs and objectives, and to facilitate networking with peers and employers.
ONESTEP will host day one of the conference with highlights including:
· Keynote speaker, Bill Santos – presenting on “Prospecting in a Downturn Economy”
· An Employer Panel
· Labour Market Information Specialist, David Varity, Economist, Service Canada and Ray Gormley,
Labour Market Coordinator, LMI and Research Unit Toronto, Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
· Timely and relevant workshops
· Networking Reception with attendees and employers.

First Work will host the Job Developer Institute,
a two day face-to-face professional development, college level
curriculum, designed to enhance the skills of job developers, followed
by 36 hours of distance education for a total of 45 credit hours.
Some of the topics covered include: • skill requirements for successful job development • how to work with diverse client group • developing strong employer relationships • selling and marketing techniques • improving placement retention strategies

updated by ONESTEP, the Career and Employment Information Specialist
(CEIS) course is based on the Forum of Labour Market Ministers' (FLMM)
Career and Labour Market Information Service Delivery Guidelines. It is
designed for staff working in Information Resource Centres who help
individuals use career and labour market information. The course
provides participants with the skills and knowledge they need to assist
information-users to make informed career, educational and job search
plans. We are offering the three day classroom component. This training covers six topic areas:
• Information and Career Decision-Making: The Career/Life Planning Model
(the role of career and employment information at each stage of the model)
• Locating the Information: becoming familiar with the wide variety of resources and evaluating the material
• Using the Information: learning how to apply resources to specific client needs and when to refer clients
• Managing the Information: learning practical techniques for ordering, cataloguing and tracking resources
• Keeping up-to-date with career and employment information and resources
• Promoting the information service
Career

in the right direction and helping them make better informed career
