ONESTEP Resource Library General Information
What kind of information is in the Resource Library?
The ONESTEP Resource Library provides a searchable database of information about community-based employment and training across Ontario and beyond. The ONESTEP Resource Library is also interactive in that we encourage our members and site visitors to suggest a resource by posting to our website themselves. As our library grows, you can expect to find an impressive list of website links, online resources, articles, reports, speeches and full-text downloadable publications.
Who can suggest a resource?
Any visitor to the ONESTEP website may suggest a resource be added to our library. All submissions are reviewed and approved by ONESTEP staff before going live on the site. ONESTEP reserves the right to approve all content posted to the website.
How should I describe the resource?
Use this space to enter some general information about the resource. For example, cut and paste an excerpt from the executive summary of a report or the mission statement or mandate of an organization as featured on their website. Try to be as brief as possible and make your description approximately one paragraph.
What should I enter for the "date of the resource"? What if I don't know the date?
This field asks you to supply the date of publication of the resource usually displayed prominently in print or audio/visual resources. You may not be able to pin point the exact publication date of a resource, particularly if it is a website. If you are unsure of the date, just leave this blank. The Date Range field may be helpful if you are looking for a specific report or article in that one may set a range (for example, Jan 1999 to Jan 2000) to help narrow down a search to the relevant data.
What should I enter for Contact Organization? What if I am not sure of the information?
This is where you enter the name of the organization that has published a particular resource, for example, the name of an agency whose website you are submitting, or the Government department responsible for a particular report. *If you are entering an online resource such as a website link, this field is very important as it is the place to enter the URL or website address in the Contact Organization URL box. Without filling this in, your suggested online resource will not be understood or displayed as a hyperlink.
What are "Associated Keywords" and how do I select them?
Associated Keywords are words, concepts or phrases that you think people might use to search for your resource. You may enter as many keywords as you think are appropriate. Please use words in lower case, separated by a space. (For example: youth women employment training).
Why am I asked to enter my name, email and telephone number? Who will see this information?
It is our responsibility to verify the accuracy and appropriateness of any and all content submitted to our website. We may wish to contact you to verify missing details of your posting not to mention the fact that we will want to thank you and notify you when your resource has been added to our online library. The suggester information we ask for is for ONESTEP's records only and will not be publicly displayed. ONESTEP will not sell or distribute this information for commercial or any other purposes.
How do I add a "Downloadable Document"?
The ONESTEP Resource Library allows you to upload entire resources yourself just like you might add attach a file to an email message. You may upload files in any format, but we would generally suggest you use Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, Rich Text Format or PDF where possible. In order for visitors to view your associated document, they must have the software at their end to support the file so try to post documents in common file formats. Just give the document a name, indicate what file format it is (for example, Microsoft Word, PDF etc) click on Browse and then select the file from your hard drive. If you have questions, you can always contact us at webadmin@onestep.on.ca

Can I make suggestions to help improve the Resource Library?
You bet! Please send your thoughts to us at webadmin@onestep.on.ca
Can I suggest extra categories, types of resources or types of resource focus?
You bet! At ONESTEP, we want our library to reflect the kind of information you are looking for out there in cyberspace! Please send your thoughts to us at webadmin@onestep.on.ca
Why doesn't my resource show up on the site immediately?
Every time you submit a resource to the ONESTEP Resource Library, our site administrator has an opportunity to verify your changes before they go "live" on the ONESTEP website. By manually verifying each resource listing we can ensure consistency throughout the library, help member agencies enhance their resource listings wherever possible, and even catch the odd typo! While we try to verify and approve resources within two days, if your listing hasn't been updated within that time please feel free to email us at webadmin@onestep.on.ca
What if I get an error message?
If you are getting an error message, it could be that our web server is temporarily down. While we tried to resolve as many "bugs" in the Resource Library before launching, you may have found one that we missed. Either way, please send us an email at webadmin@onestep.on.ca
